Alter IGI runway near no-fly zone, says ATC

ATC newsNEW DELHI: IGI’s air traffic control ( ATC) wants DIAL to ‘straighten’ the shortest runway and make it parallel to the

other two runways. The runway (27-09) is near Dwarka and its flight path passes close to the city’s no-fly zone, which often
leads to security agencies asking for it to be closed to commercial traffic.

“If DIAL straightens runway 27, then the funnel of the approaching aircraft will get farther away from the no-fly zone. We will ask DIAL to do this before laying the fourth runway,” said a senior official.

Straightening runway 27 could remove the sword that hangs over commercial planes using this runway as that would keep planes
farther away from the no fly zone.
